Sir Richard Branson – Founder of Virgin Group

Maggie Aderin-Pocock

Orlando Bloom
Actor, known for Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings.

Leonardo da Vinci
Painter, sculptor, and inventor.

Walt Disney
Built the Disney Empire with his brother.

Jamie Oliver

Each of these individuals were all diagnosed with dyslexia. But do you know what they have in common? They were able to break down the stereotypes, overcome their learning difficulties and become professionals in their chosen field.

For many this seems out of reach, however with support in place such as SEN (Special Educational Needs) Support, learning is becoming much more accessible to those with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Under the Equality Act 2010 it is a legal duty for all training providers and employers to offer additional support as needed to their apprentice learners with learning difficulties and disabilities (LDDs), and funding is available to cover these costs. For more information regarding SEN Support, please contact your training provider or employer. Alternatively if you are an employer or training provider looking for more information please visit the Government guidelines here.

Here at Skills Beyond School dyslexia is a subject close to home, so when we established the organisation, we wanted to ensure that everybody felt included when they came to us. As a result, we designed our logo and website around a purple theme, as clinical studies show an increase in brain wave activity when dyslexic individuals read text which is in purple. This essentially means those with dyslexia can read our website a lot easier.

You can find more information about dyslexia on the British Dyslexia Association’s website.
